If you don't speak español, that means happy birthday to me.
So what did I do on this my 20th (seriously?! I'm so old!) birthday?
Well the morning was the same as any other day. Except a little sadder because the fruit I got for breakfast was a pear, and honestly, they're not my favorite. Oh well.
Class was boring and I don't like having 10 people in our classes in the morning. I preferred when it was just the 6 of us. Especially because all of the new people are pretty talkative and have a lot to say about everything. Which can be nice so you don't have to talk as much but it's also kind of unfortunate because sometimes it's just that you really can't talk much once they get going. Not that I really would have had much to say today. We're going over the subjunctive and we've started talking about using it with expressing opinions. So we were supposed to give our opinions on all this stuff about the city and/or the country we live in or what we think about sevilla. And I just don't have opinions about a lot of this stuff. Plus a lot of the phrases we were using were stuff like, it's horrible that, it's unjust that, it's not logical that, and I just don't want to spend the class period complaining about political type stuff in america. America sounds pretty great to me right now. So does the city I live in there. I don't have any complaints about it. And sevilla? I'm trying to make the most of it, so why would I want to go around and list all of the bad things about it? So yeah. That was basically the first two classes and by then I was so ready to be done with class.
But no. We had the afternoon class still. Today we talked about stories and legends and such which is a theme I usually like but I still just felt like the day was dragging on and on and on. We watched this weird video that told a story about this lonely scarecrow that just wanted to be friends with the birds and didn't understand why they never came to talk to him. Then he help nurse a sick blind bird back to health and asked it why the birds wouldn't be friends with him and the bird told him that scarecrows scare birds. So the scarecrow went to the farmer and was going to ask to not do the whole scarecrow thing anymore but the farmer got kinda freaked out that the scarecrow was alive and thought he was going to attack him so he gathered all the villagers and they hunted down the scarecrow and burnt down the windmill he was hiding in. The birds wanted to help the scarecrow since he had helped one of them but there was nothing they could do so the scarecrow died. But then the birds gathered up the ashes and spread them all over so that the ashes were flying in the wind and the scarecrow was finally surrounded by friends, flying through the air with the birds. It was supposed to be a legend about why crows are black or something but that wasn't really a big part of the story I didn't think. So it was interesting enough. And now we have to write our own story but she gave us certain things we have to have in it which is a cloud, a girl playing the flute, a girl on a bike, a monkey, and a train station. Ok. And then she said she wasn't going to be there tomorrow afternoon but instead of just having the afternoon off we're supposed to go join some other class. Not too happy about that. But whatever.
After class Emily and I got some really good ice cream. Then we sat in some plaza for awhile where I was kind of afraid we were going to be attacked by pigeons. After that we walked around and went in some shops. I didn't really buy anything but then we had to go to the grocery store to pick up some more bread for sandwiches and water so I decided to pick up some oreos as a treat.
When I got back to the house it was almost dinner time. For dinner we had this kind of weird ugly colored soup that wasn't too bad. We also had some kind of meat or maybe fish we honestly didn't know but it tasted ok. There was also the potato cake thing that I really like. Then for dessert R made this little cake and put a two and a zero candle on it for me. It was really nice. But after I blew out the candles J decided he should take pictures so I had to blow out the candles again. Then he just took a lot of pictures of us and R tried to get a picture of him but was just failing at using the camera. It was really funny.
So overall not a bad birthday. And I mean it will be hard to forget the year I spent my birthday in spain.
