And by do nothing I mean I didn't do anything exciting after class. But there is still plenty to talk about.
This morning I got up earlier, ate breakfast later and still felt like I didn't have enough time to do all I had hoped to do. I'm hoping I will get my schedule down and a routine figured out soon. But I still got to the school on time. It was a little warmer and sunnier today which was nice. This morning in the grammar class we didn't focus as much on grammar I feel like. We talk a little bit about the past perfect tense and when you would use that and not one of the other past tenses. So it was pretty simple and I didn't really have any trouble with it. We also talk a lot about traveling and vacations and there was a good amount of vocabulary that I wasn't familiar with. We were assigned several activities in the book and they weren't too bad except for one where you had a list of travel related words that you had to match with other travel related words and I just didn't see the point of it at all.
The second half of the morning was pretty fun. We talked about stories, in particular stories we remembered reading as kids. Then we talked about some vocabulary that is often used in kids' stories and how to use the preterite and imperfect in telling stories. This kind of confused again what I thought I understood to be the "rules" that we learned yesterday. But I must not have been too confused because then we had to write a story using some of the vocab we learned and using the preterite correctly and when she corrected the stories afterwards I only had a few mistakes and I was able to understand pretty easily what was wrong and why the other way was right.
At our afternoon break I tried some of the sandwich that Emily's host mom sent with her. That was interesting. It was pretty good...I've just never eaten, or ever thought of eating/making, a potato sandwich before. Then in the afternoon class we worked on finding information on the spanish community of our choosing so we could use what we find to make some kind of presentation. My group is doing the presentation on país vasco and I got the job of looking up basically the boring and basic information but that was fine with me. I got to learn about the climate and economy and some of the outdoor activities you can do there. We spent pretty much the whole time doing that so we will spend tomorrow putting together a powerpoint with the information we find.
During this class though I got a note that I need to go talk to someone about the internship that I'm supposed to do while I'm here. So I found her and she said that when she looked over the resume I sent her and saw that I had worked at day camps and such with kids that she looked into me doing my internship at some kind of daycare. But she explained how I would need to make sure that my spanish was good enough to communicate with the others that work there - to be able to understand any instructions they give me and to be able to tell them about any problems and stuff like that. The kids there are infants up to 3 years old so they don't know any english clearly and I guess I would need to be able to communicate with them as well. But as far as communicating with babies and toddlers I would just need to know words like stop and no and pick up your toys. Maybe some don't do thats like no hitting, kicking, spitting, etc. I don't. It sounds like something I would really like, but I'm not entirely confident my spanish is where it needs to be and I don't know if it will improve enough in just a few weeks for me to feel comfortable doing this. But I guess I'll probably feel that way about any of the internship positions I'm presented with. So I've got some things to think about.
After class Emily and I went back to corte inglés to get some food so that we wouldn't have to be spending our money on eating out every day. I got a loaf of bread and some peanut butter and also some chocolate wafer cracker cookie things to snack on. But I forgot to look for a notebook somewhere so I guess that's the next thing I will try to find. After that we just had a lazy afternoon. Emily came over after a while so we could finish our story project. I had dinner between 8:30 and 9 I think. Soup again. With meat and potatoes and carrots and some kind of bean I think. Then there was this chicken with this weird sauce and these potatoes that I really don't like very much and this other kind of vegetable that was like fried or something I think. I'm not really sure. Then there was an orange for dessert of course. At least I'm getting some fruit. Even if I'm eating when I feel like I should be offered chocolate...
So, pretty simple, nothing to exciting, and I'll probably be going to bed soon because once again I am super tired. And hopefully I will do even better at getting up tomorrow morning. Hasta luego.
