getting semana santa started - domingo de ramos

so much to say...so little time

It's after midnight here and I just got back from watching amazing semana santa processions.  I wish I had time to tell you all about it in detail.  Hopefully sometime I will.  I want to remember this week, but I'm going to have to do that by just living in the moment as much as I can because I want to see everything.  Which is really time consuming.  I spent about 6 hours in the plaza today watching these processions.  And that was after a rather rainy and disappointing afternoon.  I still got to see 4 brotherhoods process up close and then one other from a distance.  But there were 4 other brotherhoods that were supposed to go today that decided not to go because of the weather.  So we were pretty bummed earlier this afternoon but tonight definitely made up for it.  Keep up the prayers for no rain during the rest of the week though.

So much to say.  This morning I went to palm sunday mass at san lorenzo right by my house.  It was super packed and I sat up by the altar right next to the mary paso at the edge of a pew right next to this really big guy.  But it was still cool.  The palms they give out aren't like the palms we get, they have those too except a billion times bigger that the priest carried in with him I think, I couldn't see very well, but the people got like legit olive branches which is kinda neat.  I also got a little ribbon when I went in the church.  With each church you visited for mass or for besamanos which is where you kiss the hands of a jesus statue, you got a pin with a ribbon or a sticker or something.

I got a purple ribbon from gran poder last night because we went to mass and besamanos.  So so cool to kiss the gran poder statue.  It's like the most important image of Jesus in sevilla.  But the ribbon fell off when I was walking back to the house I guess because I didn't have it when I got back.  Bummer.

But anyway, I have lots and lots of pictures of tonight and I hope that some time I can upload them and share them with you, but I've really got to get to sleep so I can get up for work tomorrow.  But first I'm going to eat my plate of queso, tortilla, y pan that R gave me when I got back because I skipped dinner because I didn't want to give up my awesome spot for watching the processions.  As sad as it was not to see la paz, despojado, la hiniesta, and especially la cena, the ones I did see, san roque, la armagura, la borriquita, and el amor and even a tiny bit of la estrella was pretty awesome.

Can't wait for the rest of the week.  No guarantee I'll have time to write about it though.

Rain rain go away!
