lunes santo, in the process of being (mostly) rained out

Well, the weather has certainly put a damper on lunes santo.  That's holy monday, by the way.  It was kind of drizzling on and off throughout the day so I was thinking that some might already have cancelled or at least been delayed by the time I left work so I decided to go to the store and go to clic before heading back to the house to check on things.  In the process I the bottoms of my pants as well as my boots very wet which is sad and I'm hoping they're dry by tomorrow because, well, I have to wear them regardless.  But I got water and some crackers from the store like I've been wanting since saturday.  I also went to the school because I wanted to check to see if there was anything they needed me to do before I left.  Apparently the director of the daycare should fill out some evaluation of me or something and create some kind of certificate saying I showed up and did some stuff.  So I'll probably talk to her tomorrow to make sure she's aware of that.

Then it was back to the house where I was interested to see if anybody had decided to go out.  I found that two, jesus cautivo and santa genovea had decided not to go.  But I also saw that la rendencion/el rocio and san gonzalo had decided to go ahead and go for it.  I ate something and showered and then checked one more time to see any more updates on what was going on.  By then santa marta had decided that they weren't going to risk it and el rocio was walking fast hoping they didn't make a mistake in going out.  They were the ones that were going to pass through the plaza near the house where we watched yesterday so I headed over there and made it just in time to see their paso which is beautiful.  I'm so glad I got to see it.  It's the scene with judas's kiss which is super intense and then the paso itself is just a really pretty dark wood with pink and red flowers all along the edge.  They made it to the official stretch but the sky just kept getting darker and the rain started coming down and everyone had their umbrellas up while we waited for mary.  The rain seemed to let up a bit and everyone put down their umbrellas so that we could all see mary make her way through.  She was beautiful too.  All the marys are beautiful but this one was a little different because her I don't know what you call it but the tunic/cloakish thing she wears was not all the same pattern as most of the others are.  It had that pattern but it was also just a lot of plain deep green that was really pretty.  And there were white flowers all around her candles which made it overall just a really really pretty paso and I was so glad to be able to say I at least got to see something today.

After that the rain was picking up again and I had no idea where san gozalo should have been at that point so I decided to go back to the house to check for updates.  Good thing too because what I saw was not encouraging.  Las aguas decided not to go and san gonzalo and la rendencion were having to stop and seek refuge in the closest church as the rain got even heavier.  The pasos from rendencion wound up in la iglesia de la anunciacion and the nazarenos were in the fine arts building of the university of sevilla. San gonzalo is a huge brotherhood with over 2000 nazarenos.  It takes over an hour for the front and back of their procession to cross the same point.  So while the rain started coming down mary held back and wound up staying closer to her home base in the capilla de la estrella.  But the jesus paso was already over the bridge so they had to just keep going until they reached the magdalena.  I don't know what they're going to do now.  Maybe they'll continue on, maybe they'll just go back.  But right now it's still coming down pretty strong.  Major bummer.  Should be hearing about the other 3 groups soon because they all should have been leaving within an hour or so.

Hoping for better luck tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week.  Check yesterday's post for an updated version with pictures which I should have done soon.  Hopefully this will soon be updated with a couple pics of what I did get to see today.

  1. yeah, only one other group is going out and they're leaving their pasos behind so I guess I'm in for the evening. Still hoping for better weather tomorrow.
